WAYANAD: The victims of Wayanad landslide are planning to protest due to the delay in rehabilitation. Janashabdam Action Committee said their present plan is to stage a strike next week. A dharna will be held in front of the Collectorate. The action committee had earlier alleged that the central and state governments were not providing assistance. It is followed by the strike against the neglect.

The victims of Wayanad are in severe financial crisis. The members of the action committee told the media that if the issues are not resolved, they will go to Delhi and protest with the children taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit. Even after 87 days of the tragedy, the condition of people in Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of Wayanad is pathetic.

The acquisition of land in the Elston and Nedumpala estates for the township was in legal entanglement. The petition filed by the estate owners against the acquisition of land under the disaster prevention act is under consideration by the court. The court also directed that land should not be acquired until the petition is heard on November 4. A financial promise of Rs 300 per day was given to help the affected people. The money was not obtained regularly. Banks' promise to write off loans has not been fulfilled. With this, the affected people formed an action committee.
