THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to continue in the state today. Five districts are on yellow alert. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted.
Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Alappuzha, Idukki and Malappuram in the next three hours.
Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely over Kerala coast, south Lakshadweep region adjoining South East Arabian Sea and Kanyakumari region with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at some occasions up to 55 kmph. In this situation, the IMD has informed that fishing should not be done on the coasts of Kerala and Lakshadweep today and there is no restriction in fishing on the coast of Karnataka.
Alert issued
A warning has been issued following the rising of water level in the Achankovil river.
Residents living along the Achankovil river has been alerted as yellow alert has been issued at Kalleli and Konni GD stations of the state irrigation department.
