KOLLAM: An accused has been arrested for attempting to kidnap girls in an auto rickshaw that was called for a ride. Navaz, a native of Karikode in Kollam, has been arrested by the police in connection with the incident. The girls, who were returning from tuitions, called for the auto-rickshaw for a ride. The incident took place at around 12 noon. The girls called for a ride in an auto that was coming through the main road. The girls who boarded the auto did not see any abnormality in Navaz's behaviour.
However, after the auto-rickshaw travelled some distance, Navaz quickly increased his speed. Unexpectedly, he drove the vehicle into a lane adjacent to the road and the girls panicked. The girls asked him to stop the vehicle, but the accused picked up the speed again. One of the girls jumped out of the vehicle when they panicked and realised that Navaz would not stop the vehicle.
Despite realising that a girl had escaped from the auto rickshaw, Navaz did not stop the vehicle and went ahead. However, after some distance, Navaz stopped the auto-rickshaw and dropped the second girl on the way. The girl, who jumped out of the vehicle, sustained injuries on her hands and legs. The police have arrested the accused and are interrogating him in detail. The initial conclusion of the police is that the accused intended to kidnap the girls.
