MANCHESTER: Erik ten Hag, the Dutch manager of premier league side Manchester United have been sacked following the team’s heavy defeat against West Ham on Sunday. The managerial role of Erik ten Hag has been hanging on the cliff for a series of below-par performances.

Last season, Manchester United under the stewardship of Erik finished eighth in the league but won the FA Cup resulting in the team management handing over a contract extension to him till 2026.

As per current reports, former Dutch legend Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as United’s interim head coach until the management finds a proper recruitment to fill the void. At the same time, the followers went crazy after former Barcelona legend and manager Xavi was seen sporting a United jersey. Xavi is now without a club and rumours are still afloat about the Spaniard's possibility to helm the big role with the Premier League giants.

Erik Ten Hag was the most sought-after manager in 2019 after he took charge over a naïve Ajax side, beaming with youngsters, to lift the Eredivisie title in the 2018/19 season. The team also had an impressive Champions League season that year.

Erik Ten Hag joined United in April 2022. Despite a lacklustre tenure at the club, Erik won two domestic trophies, the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 with United. The former premier league champions expressed their gratitude towards Ten Hag.
