BENGALURU: Virat Kohli and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell are teammates in IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the last few years, Maxwell resurrected his long-fading form and is now being considered for the captaincy role in the upcoming Twenty20 series for Australia.
Maxi, in his recently released book 'The Showman', recounted an incident that ended with Virat Kohli blocking him on Instagram.
Kohli wanted Maxwell to be with RCB and persuaded the owners to bring him to Bengaluru after Punjab Kings 11 released him. Maxwell also thanked Kohli for the support. During Australia's tour of India in 2017, both teams engaged in serious sledging, leading to a brawl-like situation on the field.
Kohli injured his right shoulder during the third Test of the series in Ranchi. Later, when it was Australia's fielding time, Maxwell teased Kohli by pressing his right shoulder. The gesture incensed Kohli and soon the Indian player blocked Maxwell on Instagram.
It was only after Maxwell joined RCB that he failed to locate Virat Kohli on Instagram. Soon, Kohli spilled the truth to his teammate. Both took the issue on a lighter note and ended up as best friends. Maxwell, who joined RCB in the 2021 season, scored more than 500 runs in that season. RCB bought Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore that season.
