MUMBAI: The Nagpur police have identified one of the gang members behind the fake bomb threats against flights in the country. Jagdish Uikey (35) of Gondia district in Maharashtra has been identified by the Special Branch of Nagpur City Police. Police said it has been found that it was Uikey who sent the emails containing fake messages. He is absconding, police said. The case was investigated under the leadership of DCP Shweta Khedkar.

Jagdish Uikey has sent emails to the Prime Minister's Office, airline offices, railway minister, Maharashtra chief minister, DGP and RPF also. He was arrested by the police in a case in 2021. Police revealed that Uikey had also written a book on terrorism. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the Maharashtra Police to arrest Uikey.

410 aircraft received fake bomb threat messages in India in the 15 days till October 28 alone. The messages came through social media. The central government is going ahead with the steps to impose an air travel ban on those who are making fake bomb threats.
