KASARAGOD: A case of attempted murder has been registered in an accident during the Kaliyattam festival at Nileswaram temple. In the incident, various departments of the Explosive Substances Act and BNS are also investigating. A seven-member team led by the Kanhangad DySP is conducting the investigation.
The Human Rights Commission has also voluntarily registered a case and ordered an investigation into the incident. K Baijunath, the judicial member of the commission, gave the instructions to the Kasaragod district collector and police chief. The inquiry report should be submitted within 15 days. The case will be heard at a nearby sitting at the government guest house in Kasaragod. The commission filed the case voluntarily on the basis of the newspaper report.
154 people were burnt in Nileswaram accident. 98 people are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Ten of them are in critical condition. The government will bear the medical expenses of all the injured. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held today.
The preliminary finding is that firecrackers were burst near the place where firecrackers were stored. The investigation also found that the organizers did not provide any security system. The court remanded temple committee president Chandrasekaran, secretary Bharathan and Rajesh, who lit the firecrackers, who were arrested in the incident. The investigating team says that the five committee members involved in the case are absconding. The investigation led by the ADM appointed by the District Collector is also continuing.
