KOCHI: Nishad Yusuf (43), editor of several hit films and a state award winner, was found hanging from a fan in the bedroom of his apartment in Kochi. Nishad's wife Shifa informed the police after he failed to open his room despite many requests from the family. When the police broke into the room at 3 am, Nishad was found hanging from a fan. He was rushed to a hospital but the doctors declared him dead. The cause of suicide is not clear.

Nishad was in Chennai for the editing works of a Tamil film and reached the flat around 2.30 am on Wednesday and soon took a shower. After getting fresh, he entered his room and locked it from inside. No response came from Nishad even after repeated queries from his wife. The police were soon alerted.

Nishad turned to editing after studying animation and visual effects and earning a diploma in post-production. He started as a video editor on a private channel and soon became an editor in TV series.

Nishad debuted in movies in 2011 through director Vinayan’s ‘Raghuvinte Swantham Raziya’. He was a part of movies like ‘One’, ‘Chaveer’, ‘Unda’, ‘Saudi Vellakka’, ‘Thallumala’ and ‘Operation Java’.

In 2022, he received a state award for his work in ‘Thallumala’. He also won the Film Critics Award for his editing of ‘Operation Java’. He had completed editing Mammootty's ‘Bazooka’ and Suriya's touted project ‘Kanguva’ in Tamil.

Ernakulam South Police registered a case of unnatural death. After the autopsy, the body was taken to Nishad’s hometown in Haripad. The mortal remains were placed for the public to pay homage in Ayaparampu School, where Nishad did his schooling. The burial ceremony took place in Ayaparampu mosque at 5 pm.
