CHATTOGRAM: South Africa triumphed in the second and final match of the Test series against Bangladesh, securing victory by an innings and 273 runs, thus sweeping the series 2-0. Dominating from the start, the Proteas posted a commanding 575-6 declared in their first innings. Bangladesh’s response fell short, scoring just 159 in their first innings and 143 in the second after following on.

In the first innings, Bangladesh started on the back foot at 4 for 34, and quickly slumped to a precarious 8 for 48. A glimmer of resistance came from Mominul Haque (82) and Taijul Islam (30), who formed a 101-run partnership for the ninth wicket, sparing the team from complete collapse. However, only three players managed to reach double figures. Kagiso Rabada led the South African bowling attack with five wickets, while Dane Paterson and Keshav Maharaj each picked up two, and Senuran Muthusamy claimed one.

Following a 416-run deficit, Bangladesh faced similar struggles in their second innings. Hasan Mahmood, batting at number 10, top-scored with an unbeaten 38, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (36) and wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Akon (29) provided minimal support. South Africa’s spinners, Keshav Maharaj (5 wickets) and Senuran Muthusamy (4 wickets), combined to dismantle the Bangladeshi lineup, sealing the hosts’ fate.

Tony de Zorzi was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant century in South Africa’s first innings, while Kagiso Rabada earned the Player of the Series title for his consistent and impactful bowling. This decisive series win strengthens South Africa’s position in the World Test Championship standings, setting up a competitive chase for the final alongside India and Australia.
