NEW DELHI: Indian and Chinese troops marked Diwali by exchanging sweets at key border points after mutually withdrawing forces from the Line of Actual Control in the eastern Ladakh areas of Depsang and Demchok. This peaceful gesture follows the recent disengagement agreement between the two countries, aimed at reducing border tensions after prolonged standoffs.

The exchange of sweets took place at several locations, including Chushul-Moldo, a primary venue for commander-level meetings in Ladakh, Daulat Beg Oldi—a former conflict zone—as well as Banja near Kibithoo in Arunachal Pradesh and Nathula in Sikkim.

As part of the withdrawal, both nations relocated defense equipment and military vehicles to their respective base camps. Joint inspections, conducted both on-site and via drones, are verifying that troops have indeed vacated forward positions. Both sides confirmed the withdrawal of forces in line with the agreement, signaling a positive step toward peace along the border.
