TEHRAN: A young woman walked in a college wearing only underwear to protest the dress code of women in Iran. Last day, the woman protested in a different way at the Islamic Azad University in Iran. The incident has shocked the rulers of Iran. The pictures and video of the protest have already sparked a huge debate on social media. The video also shows the security personnel stopping the young woman who was walking wearing only her underwear.
University spokesperson Amir Mahjob Xil said that the young woman came in a different way because she has a mental disability and is currently safe at the police station. At the same time, some responded on social media that the young woman's was a deliberate protest. In Iran, where there are strict religious rules, for a woman to go scantily clad in public is a matter of fear but another person responded that the woman's response was against the mandatory hijab.
The death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahza Amini in police custody in September 2022 for allegedly violating hijab laws sparked nationwide protests. Groups of women took to the streets and tore off their hijabs and burned them. This caused a severe crisis in Iran.
