pension

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has ordered to pay pension to those who have completed 15 years after commutation of pension at the time of retirement. Justice N Nagaresh passed the order on a petition filed by eight retired employees of United Electrical Industries in Kollam and Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company. The petitioners are aged between 75 and 82 years. The high court directed the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner to sanction their pension.

According to the 1995 pension scheme, the pension of those who commuted their pension at the time of retirement should be restored to normalcy after 15 years. This provision was implemented in 2020.
This provision was not there when the petitioners commuted their pension. The provision was later incorporated through an amendment. The petitioners argued that they too were entitled to a normal pension according to this provision.
