THRISSUR: Poet and Sahitya Akademi president Satchidanandan wrote on Facebook that he is slowly ending his public life as he is suffering from temporary dementia. He also informed that he will only participate in functions related to poetry and some programmes of the Academy till the end of this term.
He wrote on Facebook: "Friends, I was suffering from temporary dementia seven years ago. I have been taking medicines since then. It didn't recur after that. But on November 1, it came back in a new way. Numbness in the legs, shivering of the hand, inability to speak, memory loss, etc., issues that last for a small while."
Doctors say stress is the main reason for this second avatar. So I am avoiding traveling and speeches. From now on, I will only participate in a few events related to poetry that sustain my life. Please don't invite me to public meetings. As long as I have memory, reading and imagination, I will write. They can disappear at any time."
