KOLLAM: A complaint has been lodged to the DGP demanding a case against K Gopalakrishnan, industries director. He is facing suspension for creating a religion-based WhatsApp group. Action was taken by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan based on chief secretary Sarada Muraleedharan’s report.
The complaint was filed by Kollam DCC general secretary Faisal Kulappadam. The complaint demanded a case to be registered against him for trying to create communal hatred in the society. The complaint also mentioned chief secretary's report that service rules were violated.
The police had earlier informed that a suo motu case could not be registered against IAS officer Gopalakrishnan in the Mallu Hindu WhatsApp group issue. The police clarified that legal action is possible only if any officer involved in the group complains.
Gopalakrishnan as admin created religion based WhatsApp groups on October 30. The complaint was filed after the information came to light. Gopalakrishnan claimed that the groups were created by hacking his phone and that he knew about it from his friends. However, the police clarified that Gopalakrishnan's actions were suspicious. Gopalakrishnan gave his phones to the police after formatting them.
Google had also informed police that the group was not created by hacking Gopalakrishnan's phone. Internet service providers also informed that no IP address other than Gopalakrishnan's phone was used to create the groups. This strengthened the police's suspicion that Gopalakrishnan himself created the groups. WhatsApp had also earlier reported to the police that no hacking had taken place.
