MUMBAI: The number of people migrating from India to Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries is increasing every year, according to a report. OECD consists of rich countries like US, UK and Canada. The report also states that in the future, more Indians are aiming to migrate to these OECD countries. Be it new immigrants, international students, people seeking citizenship, they mostly choose OECD countries.

2022 marks an important milestone in migration. This year alone, 5.6 lakh Indians migrated to OECD countries. 2022 saw a 35 percent increase over 2021. India was the main source of immigrants in these countries that year. China is in second place with 3.2 lakhs. 6.4 percent of new immigrants to OECD countries are from India.

Russia is in third place in the figures. In 2022, 2.68 lakh Russians migrated to OECD countries. The previous year it was 1.12 lakh. Russia, which was in 18th place, overtook Romania to take the third place. These things are clarified in the International Migration Outlook 2024 report released on Thursday in Paris. In 2022, UK and US welcomed 1.12 lakh Indians. Canada received 1.18 lakh people. Compared to the previous year, the number of arrivals in Canada has decreased by 8 percent. Most of the Indians migrate through the labor route.
