THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Financial aid will be given to the families of the two women killed in the accident at Kelakam. The accident happened when the minibus in which they were travelling overturned leading to their deaths at Kelakam in Kannur. Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian said the Cultural Welfare Fund Board will give a compensation of Rs 25,000 each to the families of the dead as emergency financial assistance. The cultural department will bear the medical expenses of those undergoing treatment.

The minister informed that has directed the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy to make arrangements to carry the bodies of the dead and arrange ambulance for those discharged from the hospital. He also expressed condolences on the death of the two women.


The bus of Kayamkulam Deva Communication Drama Troupe met with the accident. The two women dead were Anjali of Kayamkulam and Jessy Mohan of Karunagappally. Nine people sustained injuries and the condition of some of them is critical.

The accident happened Friday morning at 4 am. The drama troupe had a programme in Kannur yesterday. The accident happened when the troupe was going to Bathery for a programm today.


The troupe initially tried to enter Wayanad from Kelakam via Nedumpoil pass. However, due to the threat of landslides in the pass, traffic has been banned. The accident happened when they were going to Wayanad via a shortcut. The vehicle lost control and overturned.
