JOHANNESBURG: A stellar all-round performance from India saw them defeat South Africa by 135 runs in the fourth T20I in Johannesburg and claim the T20I series 3-1. Winning the toss and batting first, India managed to put up a massive score of 283/1 in 20 overs. In reply, South Africa was bundled out for 148 runs in 18.2 overs.
Score: India 283-1 (20), South Africa 148-10 (18.2)
South Africa's chase for 284 began in disarray, losing four wickets for just 10 runs in the first three overs. Ryan Rickelton (1 off 6), Reeza Hendricks (0 off 2), Aiden Markram (8 off 8), and Heinrich Klaasen (0 off 1) were dismissed cheaply. South Africa were struggling at 30/4 by the end of the six-over powerplay.
Later, David Miller (36 off 27) and Tristan Stubbs (43 off 29) formed an 86-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, the early collapse made it difficult for the hosts to accelerate the run rate to catch up with India's total. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi struck in successive balls, dismissing Miller and Stubbs, respectively, leaving South Africa struggling at 96/6 in 12.1 overs.
The rest of the batters were not able to put up much of a fight against the Indian bowlers. Marco Jansen remained unbeaten at 29 off 12 balls. For India, Arshdeep Singh claimed three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel took two wickets each. Hardik Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi and Ramandeep Singh took one wicket each.
Earlier, batting first, India's Sanju Samson (109* off 51) and Tilak Verma (120* off 47) put on an explosive batting display to take the team to 283/1 in 20 overs. They shared an unbeaten second-wicket partnership, scoring 210 runs in just 85 deliveries. Abhishek Sharma (36 off 18) was the only batter dismissed in the Indian innings.
