LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, 10 newborn babies were killed in a massive fire that broke out at the Maharani Lakshmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. 37 children have been rescued. The fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital at around 10.45 pm on Friday.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. According to reports, there were nearly 30 newborn babies in the room inside the neonatal intensive care unit. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administration to ensure necessary treatment for the injured children. The Chief Minister directed the Jhansi Divisional Commissioner and Regional Deputy IG to submit an urgent report on the incident.
