BAREILLY: A case has been registered against a five-member gang for allegedly extorting ₹25 lakh from retired SP Jagdish Singh Patani, father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani. The Bareilly Kotwali police have booked the accused under charges of fraud, intimidation and extortion.
The accused, identified as Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash and Guna Preetiya, allegedly deceived Jagdish Singh by promising him a high-ranking position in a government commission.
Jagdish, who resides in the Civil Lines area of Bareilly, reportedly knew Shivendra personally. Through him, he came into contact with Diwakar and Acharya Jayaprakash. The accused gained Jagdish's trust by claiming to have strong political connections that could secure him a position as vice-chairman or a higher rank in the government commission.
As per the complaint, the gang extorted ₹5 lakh in cash and ₹20 lakh through transactions across three bank accounts. They assured Jagdish that if the promised position was not secured within three months, the money, along with interest, would be refunded.
When no appointment was made even after months, Jagdish demanded his money back. However, the accused allegedly began threatening and misbehaving with him instead.
