THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for six districts in Kerala today, predicting heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The affected districts are Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Wayanad, where isolated heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected over the next 24 hours.
Over the next three hours, moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds, which could reach speeds of up to 40 kmph are likely in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Palakkad districts. Light rain may also occur in scattered areas of Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
In addition, the department has warned of possible rain with thunder and lightning at isolated locations across the state today and tomorrow. Another yellow alert has been issued for tomorrow in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
The Meteorological Department has also advised against fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today due to strong winds, with speeds ranging from 35 to 45 kmph, which may occasionally reach up to 55 kmph. Fishermen are urged to stay cautious as bad weather conditions are expected to persist over the region.
