assault

BELAGAVI: Two women were allegedly assaulted by their neighbors in Belagavi over accusations of engaging in prostitution. The complainants, who have reportedly been residing in the area for the past four years, stated that the assault occurred in public, leaving them humiliated and injured.

According to the victims, a group of individuals barged into their house, dragged them outside and physically assaulted them. During the attack, their clothes were torn, and the ordeal was recorded on a mobile phone.

Neighbors alleged that strangers frequented the house, which led to suspicions of illicit activities. However, the victims have refuted these claims and sought police protection, citing threats to their lives.

The victims initially attempted to file a complaint at the local police station, but their plea was allegedly ignored. They then approached the Belagavi Police Commissioner, who directed the local police to register a case. Following the commissioner's intervention, a case was filed against three individuals and the police have stated that the accused will be questioned soon.

This incident has drawn attention to a similar case from last December, where a 42-year-old woman in Belagavi was reportedly dragged out of her home and stripped after her son eloped with a village girl.
