IMPHAL: Conrad Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) has withdrawn support to the Biren Singh government in Manipur. In a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, the NPP accused the government of complete failure in controlling the violence. The NPP expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
The NPP's decision came at a time when the opposition is intensifying its criticism of the BJP over the violence. At the same time, the withdrawal of the NPP will not affect the survival of the government. The BJP has 37 seats in the 60-member Assembly. The NPP has 7 seats. A majority of 31 seats is required. The BJP has the support of five MLAs of the Janata Dal (United), five of the Naga People's Front and three independent MLAs.
