PALAKKAD: The open campaign for the by-election has come to an end. After today's silent campaign, the people of Palakkad will write their verdict tomorrow. When the 35-day campaign, full of controversies, war cries and twists, came to an end, all the fronts are in full confidence.

In Palakkad, where the Congress is trying to maintain victory, the BJP is trying to capture the constituency and the CPM is trying to prove that the lost glory has not faded away, the fronts are trying to ensure victory by pulling out every last trick they got. The three fronts tried to expose their strength at the last minute through the Kalashakottu.

The roadshows began at 4 pm yesterday. UDF candidate Rahul Mankoottathil's roadshow started from Olavakkode. Rahul arrived with a blue trolley bag. Sandeep Warrier, who left the BJP and joined the Congress, was the main star. Film star Ramesh Pisharody and Muslim League leader Munawar Ali Shihab Thangal were also active.

LDF candidate Dr P Sarin's roadshow started from the CPM district committee office at 4 pm. Minister MB Rajesh, CPM leader AK Balan and district secretary EN Suresh Babu accompanied Sarin.

BJP candidate C Krishnakumar's roadshow started from Melamuri junction. Sobha Surendran and Thushar Vellappally were also present. The three frontline workers enthralled the city with songs, music and dances.

The UDF will be toppled and thrown into the sea. Last-minute false campaign should be rejected. K Muraleedharan has benefited us. He can't say more than this while staying in the party.

- Minister MB Rajesh

C Krishnakumar will win with a huge majority. We have complete confidence.

- Sobha Surendran, BJP leader
