ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha is becoming infamous in the name of gruesome crimes, particularly murders where the perpetrators attempt to destroy evidence by burying the victims' bodies. Over the past year, six similar cases have been reported, with the killing of Vijayalakshmi being the latest incident.
April 22
Poomkavu native Rosamma (61) was killed by her brother Benny and the body was found buried behind the house. Benny murdered Rosamma by hitting her on the head with a hammer following a dispute over her second marriage. The incident came to light on the fourth day.
July 2
It was found that a woman, who had gone missing one and a half decades ago, was actually murdered by her husband and his friends. Following the murder, the body was dumped in the septic tank. The deceased is Chennithala Iramathoor native Kala (22). Five persons were arrested in the case. Kala's husband Anil (45) is remaining abroad. The arrested persons are Iramathoor natives Suresh, Jinu Rajan, Pramod, Santhosh and Soman.
August 11
Three persons, including a woman and her boyfriend, were arrested for murdering and burying the newborn baby that the woman gave birth to. The incident came to light when the woman sought treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam due to bleeding. The baby's body was found buried in a bund of a paddy field in Thakazhi. The arrested persons are Sona, her boyfriend Thomas and his friend Ashokan.
September 2
A woman and her boyfriend were arrested for murdering their newborn baby and burying the body in Pallippuram. The incident came to light after the two lied to an ASHA worker that they gave the child for adoption. The five-day-old baby was strangled to death by the woman's boyfriend. The two then buried the body near the toilet. The arrested persons are Pallippuram native Asha (35) and her relative Ratheesh (39).
September 10
The body of an elderly woman, who went missing from Ernakulam on August 4, was found buried in a compound in Kalavoor Korthussery. The deceased is Kochi native Subhadra (73). Three persons were arrested in the case. The arrested persons are Kattoor native Mathews, his wife Oormila and Mathews' relative Reynold.
