NEW DELHI: Antony Raju MLA has faced a setback in the evidence tampering case. Rejecting the appeal filed by the MLA, the Supreme Court said that he should face trial in the case. The apex court also said the trial should be completed within a year. Antony Raju should appear before the trial court on December 20. The verdict was delivered by a bench headed by Justice CT Ravikumar.
Although the incident related to the case happened in 1990, not even a trial was conducted in the case till 2024. It is alleged that while working as a junior lawyer, Antony Raju had tampered with the evidence in a drug case. Antony Raju filed the appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's order for a reinvestigation in the case. Meanwhile, the government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that Antony Raju had not committed any crime.
