The divorce of Oscar winner and music director A R Rahman and his wife Saira Banu was announced yesterday. Saira’s lawyer Vandana Shah announced the divorce of the couple’s 29-year-long marital life.
The decision was announced in a statement released by the couple, which stated that the decision was based on the emotional strain of continuing the relationship. Now Rahman has come forward responding on their divorce. He responded on social media that he had expected to complete thirty years of martial relationship.

A R Rahman and Saira got married in 1995. Rahman had previously said that it was an arranged marriage and that Saira was found by his mother. Rahman had previously stated that he had told his mother about three conditions regarding his wife. He wanted an educated wife, one who respected music and one who was humane. After a search, Saira was chosen as his bride. Rahman and Saira have three children, Khatija Rahman, Raheema Rahman and A R Ameen.
