PALAKKAD: Voting continues in Palakkad where by-elections are being held. There is a slow voter turnout in the constituency. According to the figures so far, there is a decrease of more than ten percent compared to the 2021 elections. 47.22 percent polling was recorded till 2 pm.
There was a long queue of voters at many polling booths in the morning. However, later it became slow. However, all the candidates are optimistic. NDA candidate C Krishna Kumar cast his vote at Ayyapuram Govt LP School. He told media that people will vote for development.
Meantime, a malfunction in the VVPAT at booth number 88 of Manapullikavu Trueline Public School delayed the voting. LDF candidate Dr P Sarin had vote here. He waited for half an hour and then left saying that he would vote later. Sarin responded that the people of Palakkad are with him.
Voting began at 7 am. Palakkad has 1,94,706 voters. Of these, 1,00,290 are women. There are 184 polling stations. Heavy security has been arranged at the problematic booths, including those led by the Central Army.
The polling, which was scheduled to be held on the 13th along with the Wayanad and Chelakkara by-elections, was postponed to today in the backdrop of Kalpathi Rathotsavam. The votes will be counted on all places on November 23rd.
