NEW DELHI: Justice D Krishnakumar, a senior judge of the Madras High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, at a time when Manipur is in turmoil. The current Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul will retire today. The central government took action within 48 hours on the recommendation submitted by the Supreme Court collegium on May 18. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointment. This is the first recommendation for appointment after Justice Sanjiv Khanna took over as the Chief Justice of India. D Krishnakumar, a native of Dharapuram in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, is a judge from the backward class. He became a judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016. The term of service is till May 21, 2025.
