PATHANAMTHITTA: The police have recorded the arrest of the three classmates in connection with the death of nursing student Ammu Sajeev. The three arrested are fourth-year students of Chuttipara SME Nursing College-- Aleena Dileep, A T Akshita and Anjana Madhu. They were taken into custody yesterday.
All three have been charged with abetment to suicide. More charges will be imposed after recording their detailed statements. It is reported that the three had blamed Ammu in many issues including financial.
Ammu committed suicide by jumping from her hostel building on November 15. Her father Sajeev had earlier filed a police complaint mentioning that the issues related to three of her classmates led to Ammu's death. The family had also alleged that there was no intervention from the college authorities even though they had filed a complaint about the issues earlier.
The college authorities said the three classmates had informed the teacher about Ammu jumping from the building at 4.30 pm. However, Ammu was taken to Pathanamthitta General Hospital, two and a half kilometers away, only at 5.15 pm. There are reports that it took longer to reach the hospital and she was kept in the hospital for more than an hour and a half.
Ammu's parents have also demanded that those who were against in shifting seriously injured Ammu to Kottayam Medical College Hospital, should be questioned. While going to college after learning about their daughter's accident, they called the hostel warden, but she did not pick up the phone. They called repeatedly and finally she picked up the phone. Ammu's mother Radhamani told police that the warden told them that she slipped while taking clothes from the terrace.
