ALAPPUZHA: The concrete plastering on the roof of the toilet of PWD rest house in the city, peeled off and fell down. An official of the legal metrology department had a narrow escape. This incident was reported soon after the toilet of the secretariat collapsed yesterday seriously injuring an employee.
The ceiling came off Friday morning. Officials of the legal metrology department came for inspection at the deputy controller office functioning in Alappuzha civil station. The team was staying in PWD’s rest house. The plastering came off when an official went to the toilet and was coming out in the morning. If he had been a little late, he would have met with an accident. G R Anil, junior superintendent of the legal metrology department, narrowly escaped the accident. The visuals of the concrete ceiling falling to the ground and shattering have also been released.
The accident occurred at a time when the government was considering to open PWD rest houses to the public. Maintenance was last done when G Sudhakaran was serving as PWD Minister.
