There are many directors who have given many hit films in Malayalam. Despite their great rise, there are many who have not forgotten the path they came from. However, actor and director Aleppey Ashraf has revealed in his YouTube channel that a director who gave hit films has lost his own value. This time, Ashraf has shared his experiences with Ranjith, director and former chairman of the Chalachitra Academy.
'Some who have made a few successful films are being hated by the Malayalees and this is due to their character evolution. I am talking about director Ranjith. I met Ranjith in Madras years ago. A humble youth, who spoke politely to everyone. He never relied on other language films like others. Thus, he rose to heights in Malayalam cinema making people jealous.
Devasuram, Aaraam Thampuran, Narasimham etc. are some of the films that made the hero in Mohanlal strong. Ranjith was behind it. As he rose in the film industry, his character also started to change. He was contemptuous of others. He believed that only what he said was right. There were people who encouraged Ranjith's such beliefs. The public could not agree with many of the things he said.
He had often said that he sees making films as a crime. It was during this period that he became the chairman of the Chalachitra Academy. The Malayalees, who once welcomed Ranjith with long applause on the stages, later welcomed him with an uproar. While speaking at the film festival, he compared them to the street dogs near his house. Since then, he had to accept failures one after the other. Later, voices were raised against him in the academy. By then, sexual harassment case was filed against him. Later the government also abandoned him.
Ranjith is solely responsible for all this. I have had an experience. I was at the shooting location of Aaraam Thampuran for a few days. I did a small role in it. Actor Oduvil Unnikrishnan one day cracked a joke to scriptwriter Ranjith and he who was drunk that time, slapped him. He immediately fell on the ground. Unnikrishnan is one who takes medicine for many diseases. Everyone got scared seeing Unnikrishnan in tears. Many criticized Ranjith, but he was least bothered. Unnikrishnan was greatly disappointment during the rest of the days. His heart was broken. It was a big sin,' said Ashraf.
