CHENNAI: A man has been arrested for allegedly duping people of crores of rupees by promising them an MBBS seat in Vellore Medical College by pretending to be a pastor. Jacob Thomas, a native of Pathanamthitta, has been arrested. He was arrested by Thrissur police while he was trying to cross over to Malaysia from Chennai airport. Jacob Thomas swindled money from people from Kerala and outside the state by introducing himself as a pastor.
Jacob Thomas duped parents of crores of rupees by promising them an MBBS seat in Tamil Nadu's Vellore under staff quota. Cases have been registered against Jacob Thomas at Thrissur West, Angamaly, Koratti, Pala, Pandalam and Adoor police stations. There are cases against him outside Kerala as well. Jacob Thomas, who has been away from home for years, was staying in Thakkala in Kanyakumari when he cheated the parents from Kerala.
The accused was brought to Thrissur, produced before a magistrate and remanded. Inspector Lal Kumar, sub-inspector Sujith, senior civil police officers Tony Varghese and Mahesh and civil police officer Rubin Antony were part of the investigation team.
