WAYANAD: Wayanad District Collector DR Meghashree has declared a holiday for educational institutions including tuition centres, anganwadis and professional colleges in the wake of a red alert announced in the district tomorrow. The holiday is not applicable to model residential schools.
According to the weather forecast, there is a possibility of heavy rains in Kerala. A red alert has been sounded in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts tomorrow. An orange alert has been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur districts today and in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. The rains are happening due to Cyclone Fengal.
The Disaster Management Authority has warned that there is a possibility of landslides and flash floods and that extreme caution should be exercised. Venturing into water bodies and beach tourism have been prohibited. Tourists have been barred from venturing into the sea along the Kovalam coast in Thiruvananthapuram due to strong waves. Fishing has been banned along the Kerala coast till the 4th and off the Lakshadweep coast till the 5th.
