parliament-

The voice of the people should be heard in the houses of the people. Legislations should be made possible through detailed discussions. To talk about any subject one needs to learn about the various aspects of that subject. In the olden days, those in the ruling party used to attentively listen to the speeches of talented parliamentarians in the opposition. Such speeches have also helped to correct many of the mistakes that occur in the actions of the ruling party. With the changing times, doubts have generally been raised as to whether Parliament and other House of Representatives are becoming a place only for creating a ruckus and raising protests. If the believers of democracy think that this is due to the news coverage they get when they are protesting and stalling in Parliament, they cannot be blamed.

The opposition has been continuously disrupting Parliament over the Adani issue during the winter session of Parliament. Disputes have arisen within the INDIA alliance, the front of opposition parties, in this regard. The issues of Adani's company are not big issues affecting the common man of the country. What is the use of simply stalling Parliament by not daring to put forward active suggestions on an issue affecting the common man of the country, including price rise and inflation, and without analysing the facts even on the Adani issue?

At a meeting of party leaders in the India alliance, Rahul Gandhi took the stand that the alliance should continue to raise the Adani issue. Rahul Gandhi pointed out this with an introduction to what would have happened if the issue had come up during the UPA regime. However, the CPI and the CPM had different opinions on the issue. The CPM is of the opinion that members should wear black badges, hold a dharna and march to Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Trinamool is of the view that it is not right to disrupt the House by protesting only on one issue. CPI national general secretary D Raja said the Congress leaders have been informed that there is no unity and mutual respect in the alliance. There was criticism about the activities of the India alliance at the CPI National Council meeting also.

The Lok Sabha functioned only for 13 minutes and the Rajya Sabha for 18 minutes due to protests by the opposition. The Coastal Shipping Bill was introduced amid protests. The bill is aimed at modernising the shipping sector. People do not know what the opposition's opinion is in this regard. Stalling the entire winter session by protesting over the Adani issue is in effect tantamount to helping the ruling party. People's opinion is that Parliament is not meant to be stalled, but to discuss issues thoroughly. Not only will it not be good for anyone to move against this, but such immature moves will only lead to greater distance from the people. Keeping all other issues aside, the opposition parties need to say what they have to say in the forthcoming constitutional debate. If parliament is stalled even then and the opposition parties come out saying that the Constitution is being subverted, it cannot be said to be their fault if the people do not take it seriously enough.
