THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A disabled student was brutally assaulted by SFI unit bearers of the University College. The visuals of the student being harassed after summoning him to the union room of the college have surfaced. He was threatened and harassed cruelly. Muhammed Anaz of Poovachal Perunguzhi Konniyoor Chakkipara, second year Islamic student and his friend Afzal was harassed.
‘The SFI unit officials had a personal grudge against me because of my disability and because I was ahead of them. When they ask me to tie a flag, climb a tree, or hold a desk, I would say that I couldn't and that my legs are too weak. When I say that, they would tease me and hurl abuses at my parents. This is the fourth time I was taken to the room and beaten. They dragged me and took me away. After releasing my friend, I was taken inside. They hit me on my face and chest. They hit me on my leg with a rod. They hit me on my head. Kicked me with shoes. SFI unit president and secretary were behind the attack,' said Anas explained. Anas is also a DYFI activist.
The police have registered a case in the incident. The Cantonment Police have registered a case in the incident. A case has been registered against third-year philosophy student Jamal Chand, third-year history student Mithun, third-year botany student Alan Jamal and second-year zoology student Vidhu Udaya.
Meantime, the police have not taken any further action despite registering an FIR. The principal's permission is required to prepare the Mahasar. The permission will be received only today. The police said only after that the Mahasar can be prepared after entering the unit room. Meanwhile, the SFI filed a complaint alleging that Anas insulted them by calling them caste names, but the police were not ready to register a case.
