RIYADH: The release order of Abdul Rahim of Kozhikode Feroke Kodampuzha, who is in Saudi prison in the case of the murder of his sponsor's disabled son, was not issued today also. The court has rejected the arguments submitted by the public prosecution and accepted the details submitted in the file and postponed to pronounce the verdict. The Riyadh Support Committee also announced that the next sitting date will be available soon. The case related to Abdul Rahim's release from prison was considered by the Criminal Court in Riyadh on November 17, but the pronouncement of the final verdict was postponed to December 8.
However, the order has not been issued today also. Although Abdul Rahim's death sentence was canceled on July 2, the release from prison is being delayed because the case related to public offense is pending. If there is a release order, it will have to be approved by the higher court and the Governorate. Rahim will be released from prison only after this. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has arranged all his travel documents to return home.
The procedures from departments including the public prosecution have been completed. All that is left is the release order. Abdul Rahim has been in prison for the past 18 years after being sentenced to death in the murder case of the Saudi boy. The death sentence was commuted after blood money of Rs 36.27 crore was collected by Malayalees and donated to the family of the dead boy.
