SINGAPORE: India's young prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju defeated world champion Ding Liren of China in the 11th round of the world chess championship. With this, Gukesh took the lead to six points. The Chennai prodigy is just 1.5 points away from being crowned the youngest world champion. There are three matches left in the tournament.

The tenth-round match with Ding Liren ended in a draw. While Ding Liren won the first round, Gukesh returned to the competition by winning the third round. For the next seven rounds, both players went straight head-on-head in an intense battle. If the points are tied in the final round, a four-game rapid round will decide the winner. If this also ends in a draw, the champion will be determined through a blitz playoff.
