KOZHIKODE: The car that led to the death of a youth while filming a reel on Beach Road, has been identified. 21-year-old Alwin of Vadakara died after hit by a Benz with Telangana registration. The car was identified by examining the CCTV footage. The police had taken into custody Zabid Rahman of Manjeri, and Muhammed Rabees of Edacheri who were driving the cars in connection with the incident. Muhammed Rabees was driving the Benz car. It is reported that its insurance had not been renewed.
An inspection will be conducted by forensic experts at 11 am today. The camera installed in the Benz car will also be examined. The police have not recovered the mobile phone used by Alwin to film the reel. The police searched the accident site but could not find the phone. The police have decided to intensify the search. Whether the mobile phone was hidden is also suspected.
Two cars were brought for the filming of the reels. It was not clear which car was hit. The FIR of the police said the youth died after being hit by a Defender car. However, CCTV footage showed that it was a Benz that hit him. Meanwhile, there were allegations that the police were trying to shift the car that caused the accident.
Initially, the car number in the initial report given by the police did not belong to the two cars at the accident site. Later, inspector Baiju K Jose took both the cars into custody. Both the drivers were also taken into custody. The officials of the moto vehicle department had visited the police station and inspected the cars last night.
The incident happened when Alwin was shooting a promotional video for a private automobile company. People in the accident spot said the youth was filming an Instagram reel with his friends.
