DHAKA: 70 people have been arrested in the incidents of attacks against minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's action comes after India tightened its stance against the attacks. The arrests were made in 88 cases registered between August 5 and October 22. More people will likely be arrested as more incidents of violence have recently been reported in areas like Sunanganj and Gazipur.
India had mentioned the incidents of violence against minorities in a meeting held the other day by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jashim Uddin. However, Bangladesh denied the allegations. Bangladesh announced that 70 people have been arrested after this.
India has repeatedly expressed its concern over the rise in attacks targeting Hindus in Bangladesh after the interim government of Muhammad Yunus came to power. BJP and many Hindu organizations had protested against the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the BJP and the leader of the opposition in Bengal, gave a strong warning to Bangladesh. He also warned that Rafale aircraft will be sent to Bangladesh. “There are 40 Rafale aircraft stationed at Hasimara. Just sending two planes will do the job,” Suvendu Adhikari said. He compared the Muhammad Yunus government of Bangladesh to the Taliban and said that it is an extremist, radical, and anti-human government.
