KOCHI: The government has informed the High Court that 32 FIRs have been registered based on the Justice K Hema committee report. This is after registering six more FIRs in 14 cases after the preliminary investigation. Special permission of DGP was sought to file FIR in four cases. Four cases were dismissed due to lack of facts.
Advocate General K Gopalakrishna Kurup explained that 11 of the 32 FIRs were based on the statement of a survivor. A special bench comprising Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice CS Sudha is considering the matter. AIG Poonguzhali also came to the court to inform about the progress of the investigation.
The show-cause notices received by the makeup artists stating that they would be expelled from the organization for giving the statement were presented to the court. The court sought the explanation of the opposite parties in this regard. It has also been instructed that the complainants should bring the matter to the notice of the Nodal Officer of the Special Investigation Team. The matter will be taken up again on the 19th.
Producers Association join as party
The Film Producers Association has joined the petition filed by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) demanding a special law for the film industry. The court rejected the plea of a journalist from Kumbalam to join the case. The lawyer of WCC brought to the attention of the court that the investigation team did not approach all those who had given statements to the Hema Committee. The government explained that an investigation is underway and everyone's statement will be taken. The court said that it is not currently interfering in this matter.
