WASHINGTON: Maye Musk, mother of Elon Musk, revealed the financial hardships her son faced in life before turning a billionaire. She spoke about the financial difficulties her family went through decades ago.

A picture was recently released with the title 'Elon Musk in 1990'. She came forward in response to this. The picture shows Elon Musk in a black suit, white shirt and tie, standing in front of a painting inside an apartment. Maye said this photo was taken when she was staying in a rented apartment in Toronto. The painting on the wall is my mom’s painting. The suit Elon Musk was wearing cost $99 (approximately Rs 8,000). It also came with a shirt, tie and socks. It was bought at a bargain price.

It was the only suit Elon Musk had at that time. He had only this suit to wear daily while going to the bank in Toronto. I didn't have the money to buy him a second one, but we were happy, she said.

Dietitian and model Maye Musk (76) had previously spoken openly about the abuse she suffered from her violent husband, South African engineer Errol Musk, and the hardships she faced raising her three children after their divorce.

The family faced severe financial difficulties after immigrating to Canada from South Africa. Still, Maye Musk tried to raise her children as well as she could. The family would often buy second-hand clothes as they did not have money to buy new ones. Maye also said that she would make sandwiches with peanut butter for her children as they were unable to pay to dine out.
