THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the rains are intensifying again in the state of Kerala. Yellow alert has been issued today for three districts including the state capital. Yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

A low pressure is located over Lakshadweep and is likely to move westward and weaken during the next 24 hours. The Meteorological Department observes that there is a possibility of another low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation has formed over the South Andaman Sea and will turn into a low pressure by tomorrow. It is then likely to intensify and move towards the Tamil Nadu coast in 48 hours. The Meteorological Department informs that there is a possibility of isolated thundershowers in Kerala for the next five days as a result of this. IMD has warned that people should not go fishing in the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts today.

Along with Kerala, Tamil Nadu is also expecting heavy rains in the coming days. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting that a depression will form over the Bay of Bengal by December 15, Tamil Nadu is also expected to receive rain in the coming days. Rains are expected to intensify by the middle of next week as the depression is expected to move west-northwestward towards the Tamil Nadu coast. A yellow alert has been issued in 10 coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on December 17.
