KOCHI: The Kerala High Court said student politics in colleges need not be banned but should put an end to the bad trends related to it. A bench led by Justices Muhammed Mushtaq and P Krishna Kumar vocally opined this while considering pleas demanding a ban on student politics in colleges.

‘Student politics need not be banned. The political game in the name of it should be banned. Teachers and students hurting each other and disrupting classes through protests in the name of politics should be banned,’ the court observed.

The court said the students should have knowledge in politics and should involve in it meaningfully. They should be aware of political rights and the rights of the people. They should engage in debates. Today different things are happening on campuses. Everyone should understand about politics and the bad name that it is bad should be changed. A complete ban on politics is unacceptable. The court also said that what all is happening in the name of religion, is it banned in that name.
