THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other ministers skipped the Christmas feast hosted by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Tuesday. The Chief Secretary represented the state government at the celebration held in Raj Bhavan. KV Thomas, the government's representative in Delhi, also attended the event. Religious leaders and community leaders participated in the celebration. It must be noted that the Chief Minister had skipped the Christmas celebration hosted by the Governor last year as well due to the rift between the Governor and the government.

The other day, a large number of SFI workers had staged a protest against the Governor as he arrived at the Kerala University for the inauguration of the International Sanskrit Seminar. The doors and windows of the Senate Hall were locked for an hour and police provided security for the Governor as the SFI members broke the security cordon and protested near the venue. The Governor was later brought out of the university in a cordon by CRPF and police.

More than 1,600 students, staff, and faculty members were left in a state of chaos and distress. SFI activists broke through the police cordon and banged on the windows on the right side of the Senate Hall, shouting slogans. Police tried to prevent the doors from being opened, leading to a scuffle between police and SFI activists at the entrance. Meanwhile, armed CRPF personnel stood guard near the Governor and the dais. The doors and windows were only opened after the protesters left around 12:30 pm.

Following the incident, the police registered a case against 100 people, including SFI leaders Sijo, Anusree, Afsal and Adarsh.
