KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has quashed the ward delimitation order issued by the government. The court has quashed the delimitation of wards in eight municipalities and one panchayat. The government was completing the ward delimitation in various places ahead of the local body elections. The government suffered a setback amidst this. The court quashed the ward delimitation in Mattannur, Sreekandapuram, Panur, Koduvally, Payyoli, Mukkam, Feroke, Pattambi municipalities and th Padanna grama panchayat.

The Muslim League councilors mainly filed a plea in the court against the ward delimitation. According to them, the ward delimitation was done in 2015 as per the 2011 census. The councilors argued that there is no possibility of ward delimitation again without a new census. The court accepted this demand. With this, the court found that the ward delimitation carried out by the government as per the Delimitation Commission order was illegal and did not comply with the norms.

Although ward delimitation was done in 2015, the court did not stop the delimiation in panchayats at that time. However, this time, the delimitation in municipalities has been found to be wrong. There are widespread complaints about ward delimitation in many panchayats and municipalities. Meanwhile, the government has faced a setback from the court.
