NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has responded to opposition allegations that he insulted Ambedkar. In a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Shah strongly attacked the Congress and said he had not insulted Ambedkar. "My statement was presented in a distorted manner. Congress is distorting the facts. Congress is anti-BR Ambedkar. They are against constitution and reservation," Amit Shah said. Congress insulted Veer Savarkar too. Emergency was declared and all constitutional values were broken.' Shah said.
Amit Shah had made a controversial remark while replying to the debate on the glorious 75 years of the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
"Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar'. If they took God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)," Amit Shah said.
Amit Shah alleged that the Congress tried to defeat Ambedkar in the Lok Sabha elections and that the Congress tried its best not to award the Bharat Ratna to him. Amit Shah also said that while Nehru and Indira Gandhi had awarded the Bharat Ratna to themselves, the government with which BJP was also involved gave the Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar.
