MUMBAI: A boat carrying passengers from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island capsized, killing 13 people, including naval personnel. Ten people are passengers. The accident occurred when a Navy speedboat rammed into a passenger boat named Neelkamal.

The passenger boat sank after the collision. The accident took place in the Arabian Sea near Uran in Navi Mumbai around 4 pm. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that 101 people have been rescued. Some of those undergoing treatment are in serious condition. There were six people on the speed boat. Footage of the accident captured by one of the passengers has been released.

The engine of the Navy boat was recently replaced and a new engine was installed. It is reported that the accident occurred when the boat went out of control while it was being inspected in this regard. The rescue operation was carried out in coordination with the Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Police. Fishermen also participated in the rescue operation. The government has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.
