MUMBAI: The Malayali family involved in the Mumbai boat accident are found to be safe. The police informed that George Mathew, Nisha George Mathew and their six-year-old son Abel Mathew of Pathanamthitta, are safe. From the conversation of the six-year-old boy injured in the accident and undergoing treatment in Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Hospital, it was understood that he is a Malayali.

When the child enquired about his parents, it was known that they were missing. An investigation conducted revealed that they were in another hospital. The Uran police released the child with his relatives. The family is presently staying at a relative's house at Chandivali in Mumbai. The family of Pathanamthitta had come to Mumbai for a vacation.

The accident occurred yesterday after the passenger boat Neelkamal collided with Navy’s speedboat. The boat that was going from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island sank around 4 pm. 13 people had lost their lives in the accident. Many are still undergoing treatment. There are reports that some of them are in critical condition.

There were reportedly 110 people on the boat. The police have filed an FIR against the driver of the Navy's speedboat. The Navy's explanation is that the accident occurred after the speedboat lost control.
