Superstar Mohanlal in a recent interview talked about the reasons why the younger generation still consider the mollywood 'M duos' the undisputable stars in the industry. In an interview given to Bharadwaj Rangan as part of the promotion of his directorial debut ‘Barroz', a lively Mohanlal shared anecdotes hitherto not heard in the industry.
Mohanlal:
Today's generation still loves me and Mammootty because of the characters we have done over the years. Today's youth have copious enough technologies to go back and watch movies of the vintage era. The youths of today are using these technologies to watch our rare films. This vibrant film culture among today's youths made us re-release our old movies. People thronged into theatres to watch it once more. They are comparing today's movies with our old movies and discussing the humour, theme and psychology associated with the films that came during the 80s and 90s.
I consider myself lucky to have worked with legends Bharathan, Padmarajan, Mani Ratnam, Aravindan and many others. There are some unbelievably talented directors in the new generation. But subject remains the problem. I have jumped across genres during the same period. In one year, I made 36 films. The films of Sasikumar, Padmarajan, Thambi Kannamthanam, Sathyan Anthikad, Priyadarshan and Bharathan were made at the same time.
We were offered a variety of roles, enough to test our acting skills and hone our talent. Those are our deposits in the field. And now, we are just reaping the interest coming out of it."
‘Barroz’ will hit the theatres on December 25 as a Christmas release. Mohanlal plays the eponymous guardian character in the movie.
