ALAPPUZHA: An alumni association has prepared a dream home for a classmate who was living in a tent without fulfilling her dream of a house. 1990 SSLC batch of Thanneermukkom Govt GHSS is a unique example of friendship. Sinimol, a resident of Kannankara, who settled in her new house with her ailing husband and son, has only tears of joy in reply.

An alumni reunion held in June is what marked the completion of Sinimol's house. The classmates were brought together by a WhatsApp group called "GHSS 1990 Best Friends" that was started a year ago. There are about ninety people from India and abroad in the WhatsApp group.

The completion of Sinimol's house became a lively discussion in the first meeting of the WhatsApp community. Sinimol had not attended the meeting.

Sinimol had concreted the house five years ago with Rs 4 lakhs received through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Rs 2 lakhs she had taken as a loan. With no money to finish the house, Sinimol and her family continued to live in a tent nearby. Some well-wishers had helped Sinimol to pitch the tent.

Sinimol's husband Baiju is a heart patient. He goes to work as a mic set assistant for income. Sinimol is doing housework in Cherthala. The family survives on this income. Their son Aryan is a plus-one student.

Gathering at Vandana Niwas on 29th

As a first step, the group of friends decided to plaster the house with cement. However, within a few days, the donation reached Rs 4 lakh. This amount was enough to complete the house. In two and a half months, a beautiful house of 550 square feet was completed. Neighbours supervised the construction of the house. The house was named 'Vandana Niwas'. The housewarming was done on the 14th of this month. The classmates will gather in Vandanam on the 29th.
